Girl Guiding on the Heath

There are now spaces available at the Canford Heath Rainbows, Brownies & Guides  – In addition they are also always in need of Adult Volunteers to help occasionally or become leaders. May Mindfulness at Sherborn Cres./Verity Park -Tues.

Tuesday 7th May 10:00- 11:30am

Meet by the scout hut/ car park.

Join Tanya to take a moment for yourself to learn some gentle mindfulness techniques. We’ll explore the hidden forests of Sherborn Open Space as we use our senses to ground in nature. Bring a reusable mug if you have one for a hot drink.

Art on the Heath Tues. & Wed.

This art group meets weekly at St Paul’s Church. 

On Tuesdays they meet at 1-4pm and follow a pre-planned programme – cost £3.50.   

On Wednesdays they meet at 6.30-9pm and you can do your own thing – cost £4.

Beginners Sequence Dance Evenings - Tues.

Tues. 7:00 – 8:00pm at St Pauls church hall – Beginners sequence dance evenings

Couples or singles welcome to this friendly group, no dance experience necessary. Just £5 per session.

Men's Shed - Wednesday

The Canford Heath Men’s Shed is based at Limelights, Learoyd Rd.    A place to share skills, work together, socialise and stay active, somewhere to relax and have fun, where everyone is welcome.

Every Wednesday from 10am till 1pm.

Knit and Natter 10am - 1pm Thursday

The popular Knit and Natter group that used to meet in Lounge One has now moved to the Pilot Pub.

They meet every Thursday morning at 10am and all are welcome either to knit or just to natter –  teas/coffees and cake are available to buy in the Pub.

Coffee Morning  10am - 1pm Thursday

Every Thursday morning at 10 o’clock it’s the Community Coffee Morning at the Pilot Pub.

Pop along for coffee, cake and great company.

Adastral Square Gardeners - Thursday

The gardeners are back! and will be working on the two beds in front of the shops and the area in front of the library.

Adastral Square Gardeners (ADSGAR)  meet at 2 pm every Thursday during the summer and alternate Thursdays during the winter, weather permitting.

This dedicated group have been awarded several certificates and in 2022 they won two Poole in Bloom blue plaques for their amazing efforts.

However, there is a problem. Due to some members moving away the group are desperately seeking new volunteers. If you are interested and able to help, just pop into Craft Bliss on Adastral Square and they will be able to put you in touch with Muriel.

Join Tanya and the Green-Fingers volunteer group to enjoy the outdoors and get involved in practical conservation in your local park. Tasks will vary each session and include things like park maintenance and planting. No prior knowledge is required.

There’s no obligation to attend every session or to stay for the whole time, come along when you can. No prior knowledge is required, all tools and equipment are provided as well as tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep us going. If you have your own gardening gloves and a reusable mug, please bring these along.

Busy Bees Gardening Club - Thursday

If you are thinking of joining the Busy Bees club they meet at Canford Heath Library on the second Thursday of each month. This is a small friendly club and welcome new faces – the first visit is free then £3 per meeting including refreshments.

This month it’s Penny Jarvis “A trip to Machu Piccu”. Doors open 6:45pm for 7:00pm start.

SATURDAY FRIENDS WELCOMES A NEW LEADER 

A big welcome to Julie Mills who has recently taken over as the PramaLife Activities co-ordinator for Saturday Friends. She is an experienced member of the Prama Team and has organised an exciting programme of entertainment to take us through to the end of this year.

Why not come along to the next Saturday Friends at St Pauls church hall Culliford Crescent on the 11th May at 10am, when there will be a visit from Russell Saunders from Community Development, Trading Standards, Dorset Council who will be giving a talk on scammers followed by a questions and answers session. Also, Sue Parsons (past leader) will provide us with a quiz; Plus, there will be the usual fun and games, not forgetting tea, coffee & homemade cakes all for just £3.

10am-12 noon in the St Pauls Church Hall near ASDA.   

Canford Heath Wine Circle -10th May

This group is the only one of its kind in the whole of Dorset so we are extremely lucky to have this award winning social group on the heath.  They meet every second Friday of the month from 7.30pm – 9:30pm in the Canford Heath Library. 

The main focus is of course the love of wine with a varied programme of speakers, tasting sessions etc, but they also do other social events. New members most welcome. For more information email Jan Ansell at sec.chwc@gmail.com

Friends of the Library Book Sale - Sat.11th May

The next pre-loved book sales will be held on Saturday 11th May from 10-12 at the Canford Heath Library.

The Friends of Canford Heath Library are running another one of their popular book sales. 

Come along to Canford Heath Library and grab yourself a bargain book in our May Sale. All proceeds from the sale will go towards buying useful things for the library over and above the basics provided by the council.

Busy Bees Gardening Club Plant Sale - 11th May

The Busy Bees gardening club is definitely living up to its name as they are currently very busy planning for their forthcoming plant sale at the Canford Heath Library on Sat 11th May from 10am-12 noon.  All proceeds will go towards the club.

The TG meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Canford Heath Community Centre at 10:30am – 12:30.

Who Let The Dads Out! - Sat. 18th May

Community Litter Pick - Saturday 18th May

Our next community litter pick will be held on Saturday 18th May and we’re picking the red brick path area near Halstock Crescent. Meet 10am at the entrance to the play park in Halstock Crescent.

 Our litter picks usually last around an hour & the Council will remove the waste.

You would be very welcome to join us!

Join Tanya to learn how to make a macrame plant hanger which we will display in our new Alexandra Park Community Café! When the café opens mid-late May, you can see your macrame decorating the interior.

Your Local Councillor Meetings Continue...

Local Councillor Meetings continue to be held at Canford Heath Library. The next meeting date will be Friday 24th May from 4:30pm-6pm.

PLEASE NOTE We are extending our surgery hours and starting at 4.30pm.

We would also like to encourage young people to pop along to chat about anything to do with Canford Heath or the BCP Council area.   It doesn’t matter whether you vote, or even whether you’re old enough to vote, your opinions matter and we would like to hear from you.

All three Canford Heath Councillors will be in attendance, (Cllrs. Sandra Moore Chris Matthews and Clare Weight). If you want to raise any local council matters with us, or just want to pop in for a chat, please do come along.

Heath Social Club - Friday 31st May

The Heath Social Club meets every 1st and last Friday of the month at St Paul’s Church, Culliford Cres. from 1.30-4pm.

The last Friday of the month is a games afternoon with games such as Rummikub Scrabble & Dominoes and is just £2 and includes refreshments.

Venusians Ladies Group

Heath Social Club - Friday 7th June

The Heath Social Club meets every 1st and last Friday of the month at St Paul’s Church, Culliford Cres. from 1.30-4pm.

There will be refreshments and social bingo all for just £3. Plus this time be entertained by the guitarist Peter Pritchard

Residents’ Coffee Morning – 26th June

This time its: A TALK ON THE HISTORY OF HATCH POND by Richard Burton

Our residents’ meetings have evolved. We have replaced our formal bimonthly residents’ meetings with an informal drop in coffee and chat session. Why not come and join us for free coffee/tea and biscuits. All residents welcome.

The event is FREE and is funded by ARCH as an opportunity for residents to get together, so we would love your support. If you have any concerns about our community or ideas or want to get more involved or just want a chance to chat over a cup of tea and biscuits, we would love to see you at Canford Heath Library.
