Adastral Square Improvements

Scroll down to take a look at the ongoing improvements.

New Information Boards

Two information boards have now been installed on Adastral Square. One shows the habitat and wildlife of the heath and the other shows a snapshot of the history of the heath.

History of Canford Heath and World War Pilots:

This board shows a snapshot of the history of the heath from 3500 years ago up to the present day, including images of many of the brave pilots whose names are immortalised in many of our road names. Click This Link to view this board in more detail

Habitat and Wildlife:

Canford Heath is one of the largest remaining heaths in Dorset covering over 850 acres and this information board shows the diverse range of flora and fauna that we are fortunate enough to enjoy. Click This Link to view this board in more detail.

In addition, as the walkway between Mitchell Road (Doctors) and Adastral Square had no seating this has now been rectified by ARCH with a new bench installed close to the library. Also, a second bench has been installed at the Neighbourhood Centre near Asda.

These two benches are made of 100% recycled plastic supplied by a local Bournemouth company; so they are completely weather-resistant, maintenance-free and should never need to be replaced.

New Benches Installed

A new bench has been installed to serve as a lasting memorial to all our fallen heroes and has been sited in Adastral Square in front of the Community garden and opposite the Pilot Pub which itself is named in honour of the Fighter Pilots of WW2. The bench has been funded by ARCH .

It’s really great to see the bench is already being used:

The back of the bench has silhouettes of red and black metal poppies, doves as a symbol of peace and features the motto ‘Lest We Forget’.This will be followed soon by artwork that will link in with the heritage of roads in our community being named after WW1 and WW2 Fighter Pilots. The bench and artwork replace the set of bins that have now been relocated to the car park, as previously there was no provision for the residents of Canford Heath to properly dispose of litter in this location.

Adatral Square Gardeners

Thank you to the Volunteer Gardeners of Adastral Square. It’s looking lovely.

Adastral Square Gardeners (ADSGAR)  meet at 2 pm every Thursday during the summer and alternate Thursdays during the winter, weather permitting.

This dedicated group have been awarded several certificates and in 2022 they won two Poole in Bloom blue plaques for their amazing efforts.

However, there is a problem. Due to some members moving away the group are desperately seeking new volunteers. If you are interested and able to help, just pop into Craft Bliss on Adastral Square and they will be able to put you in touch with Muriel.

New Notice Boards Installed

ARCH has now installed a new double sided notice board in Adastral Square. This notice board replaces the old one that had served the community well for several years.
