During the school summer holidays ARCH organised two types of activities for the residents of Canford Heath.  From 4th August 2021 a new weekly walking group on Canford Heath started up.

All walks were free and led by experienced volunteer Walk Leader Bernard Corby. With the summer days, it was hoped that many residents would take the opportunity to get out in the sunshine, enjoy the walks and enjoy a great social opportunity to keep fit.

Bernard led the Wednesday Walkers on a series of walks discovering the hidden woodland paths in and around Canford Heath.

All the walks started at 10am from a variety of locations and are of varying distance.

They were planned to be suitable for all ages, walkers were advised to wear suitable footwear and to bring a drink.

There was no need to pre-book for any of the walks; residents just had to turn up on Wednesdays 10am at the meeting points listed below:

Wed 4th Aug – at Learoyd Road (10-11.30am)

Wed 11th Aug – meet outside Asda supermarket (10-11.30am)

Wed 18th Aug – meet in Adastral Square (10-11.30am)

Wed 25th Aug – meet by Verity Park gates (10am -12noon)

Wed 1st Sept – meet at Learoyd Road (10am-12.30)

In addition to the Wednesday Walkers, ARCH organised five individual trails for the children, one for each week of the summer holidays.

Week 1: Find the letters in the shop windows and make the magic words.

Week 2: Find the pictures in each of the play parks on Canford Heath and say what they are.

Week 3: Nature scavenger trail – Follow the trail and look for the plants in the pictures.

Week 4: I Spy with My Little Eye – Follow the path on the Heath and find plants etc. with the specified letter.

Week 5: Tim the zookeeper has lost his animals – Can you help him find them?

The children had to pick up a different trail sheet each week at £1 per sheet from either Lounge One at Adastral Square or Cake Me Crazy Cafe at the Neighbourhood Centre. At the end of the holidays the children were able to collect a certificate and a (gold) medal from these locations for taking part.

All proceeds raised from this childrens activity went towards funding ARCH Christmas Celebration on Canford Heath 2021
