2. Knitted Poppies available NOW in Canford Heath
Every year, Royal British Legion volunteers distribute over 40 million poppies to help fund their vital work in supporting the Armed Forces community. Due to COVID-19, this year, many of their volunteers are unable to help sell the paper ones. That’s why they are asking communities to support them in other ways to ensure our brave heroes unique contribution is never forgotten.
ARCH is organising several events as part of “Canford Heath Remembers”. Last year with your help we raised £175 for the Royal British Legion. This year ARCH has organised for hand knitted poppies to be available locally in return for a donation. Please help these venues to support ARCH support the RBL by popping in from now until the 11th Nov to get your poppy;
Poppies available within normal opening hours of each venue. All proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion.

For 2 weeks leading up to Remembrance Day, ARCH and the Canford Heath Link Magazine are joining forces for this year’s Canford Heath Remembers by tying on giant poppies to all 40 lamp posts along Adastral Road. Click here for poster

PRESS RELEASE
ARCH and the Canford Heath Link Magazine are joining forces for this year’s Canford Heath Remembers by tying on giant poppies to the 40 lampposts along Adastral Road.
Following the great success of last years “Canford Heath Remembers” Crafted Poppy display in the Library, which raised £175 for the Royal British Legion, this year ARCH (Association of Residents of Canford Heath) have teamed up with the Canford Heath and Creekmoor Link magazine who will sponsor the event.
This year the event is slightly different due to Covid-19 restrictions meaning the Library cannot accommodate another craft display. So instead ARCH has already received BCP Council permission to place 40 Poppies on lamp posts along Adastral Road for the 2 weeks leading up to Remembrance Weekend in November (display will be from the 25th October 2020 to Remembrance Day 11th Nov 2020). You can view our event poster here.
This year it is the 75th Anniversaries of VE and VJ day as well as the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Adastral Road was named after the motto of the RAF “Per Ardua Ad Astra” which translates as “through adversity to the stars” – very appropriate considering we are all living in poignant, challenging times, but in the face of adversity, we are pulling together, connecting as a community and supporting one another.
Residents are invited to sponsor a Poppy for a suggested donation of £5 each with proceeds going to the Royal British Legion. The aim is that each poppy will be named in memory of someone that a local resident wants remembering from one of the conflicts but you do not necessarily have to name a specific person – You could just put your poppy to the memory of “Our Heroes” or something similar.
ARCH would especially like to thank Canford Heath and Creekmoor Link Magazine for kindly sponsoring this Event. Jane editor of the Canford Heath Link commented “We are
delighted to be involved with this event, which will once again bring together the community of Canford Heath and honour the people who have fought for our country”
If you would like to sponsor a poppy you will need to fill in the booking form by contacting the ARCH Secretary Jackie Lowe by email ; archsecretary19@gmail.com or by clicking here.
Let’s make this a wonderful sight to see along Adastral Road and Canford Heath!
